PARIS, February 24 /PRNewswire/ --

- 'Laptop Protection From BT MobileXpress', Powered by Alcatel-Lucent, Simplifies the Security and Management of Mobile Computers

Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced a strategic relationship with BT Global Services, a world-leading provider of networked IT services.

The relationship will enable BT Global Services to deliver advanced protection for data held on laptop computers, based on Alcatel-Lucent's award-winning laptop security technology, which virtually eliminates the risk of a mobile data breach by allowing organisations to remotely secure, monitor, manage and locate mobile computers. Alcatel-Lucent's technology ensures that if a laptop is reported lost or stolen, all data held on the device can be immediately and automatically destroyed, even if the computer is turned off. It also enables organisations to take remote control of any laptop in order to apply security patches or track its location.

With any remote access solution, security is paramount. Using Alcatel-Lucent's laptop protection technology, we can ensure that BT MobileXpress customers' laptop data is always secure and manageable, and if machines are lost or stolen, that data is inaccessible to unauthorised users, said Rakesh Mahajan, head of mobility marketing, BT Global Services. This will help organisations' strengthen and simplify the security and management of laptop computers used by their mobile employees, enabling them to reap the full benefits of flexible working.

'Laptop Protection from BT MobileXpress', powered by Alcatel-Lucent, has been incorporated into the BT MobileXpress product portfolio, and ensures that employees have access to key applications and information from their laptops at all times, without compromising the security of sensitive data. The BT MobileXpress portfolio, typically used by organisations with more than 100 mobile employees, provides secure remote access technology solutions to underpin Work Anywhere, the BT suite of solutions that enable flexible working.

Organisations recognise the need to overcome the 'mobile blindspot', the point at which enterprises have no visibility or control over the location, use or configuration of employee laptops, and they are looking for a solution that helps them retain control over their sensitive data at all times to accommodate the needs of a mobile workforce, said Tom Eggemeier, General Manager of Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise sales in Western Europe. Our strategic relationship with BT solves this problem, allowing organisations to equip their mobile employees with a complete range of mobile working solutions, while eliminating the risk of company data falling into the wrong hands.

'Laptop Protection from BT MobileXpress' is available now in the UK, and is targeted for launch in Spring 2009 in Benelux, France and Germany, with further launches planned.

About Alcatel-Lucent's laptop protection technology

Invented by Bell Labs and incubated within Alcatel-Lucent Ventures, Alcatel-Lucent has created the OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian, an HSPA 3G, always-on mobile security solution card that remotely secures, monitors, manages and locates a mobile computer and protects laptops and the data that resides on them. The Nonstop Laptop Guardian has its own processor, power supply and operating system, and it leverages wireless broadband networks to let enterprises manage laptops anywhere, anytime, even when the computer is turned off.

The product enables IT managers to automatically enforce policies for compliance and deliver software patches and upgrades to their increasingly mobile workforce even if the laptop is turned off. The global solution has a SIM-card slot, an external flip antenna for enhanced coverage, an external port connection to another antenna, and Global Certification Forum (GCF) certified, meeting GSM device standards in addition to federal and European standards, FCC and CE.

The Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop guardian supports the dynamic enterprise (http://www1.alcatel-lucent.com/enterprise/en/dynamic_enterprise/) vision by interconnecting networks, people, process and knowledge to provide competitive advantage through improved communications.
