Bytemobile, Inc., the global leader in mobile internet solutions for network operators, today announced the appointment of Chris Koopmans as vice president, Product Development. Koopmans has been an engineer and architect with the company since its founding in 2000. In his new position, he is responsible for engineering, product management and information technology (IT).

Koopmans has over 10 years of industry experience in hardware and software engineering and architecture. Prior to his appointment, he was chief architect, responsible for Bytemobile's Unison(TM) platform and suite of mobile data, web, multimedia, and advertising services. Koopmans also served as director of Engineering for optimization solutions and architect for product integration following Bytemobile's acquisition of ProQuent Systems and the subsequent transition of the Unison platform to off-the-shelf hardware. His contributions include more than eight issued and pending patents covering wireless internet protocol (IP) services and optimization technology.

Before Bytemobile, Koopmans held engineering positions at Intel Corporation's Microcomputer Research Laboratories and Silicon Graphics' Cray Research subsidiary. He earned a B.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering with Highest Honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and received the Bronze Tablet Award for outstanding academic achievement as an undergraduate. He was working toward M.S. and Ph.D. degrees on a National Science Foundation fellowship when he left to join Bytemobile.
