SOMERVILLE, Massachusetts, December 22, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- The Echo Nest, a music intelligence platform that powers smarter music apps across the web and various devices, announced an agreement with the British Broadcasting Corporation on Wednesday. As part of this agreement, The Echo Nest will power the clip-to-clip recommendations in the BBC's new Music Showcase product -- a media aggregation hub that gathers all their music and music-related video and audio clips.

Another big draw for music fans: much of the music featured in the audio and video in the BBC's Music Showcase is original and cannot be found elsewhere.

The Echo Nest technology cross-references the BBC's curated music content with artist relationships, online conversation and other data so that Music Showcase can deliver an optimized selection of music, videos, articles, blog posts and reviews to the BBC's millions of online users.

Jim Lucchese, CEO of The Echo Nest, said, "It's an honor to be working with the BBC -- a global music institution that has achieved something quite unique, combining a rich history of editorial excellence with forward-thinking digital music innovation. As a music fan, I'm excited about the possibilities of our platform in the BBC's hands."

The BBC plans to add this feature to the Music Showcase in the very near future.
