The Alliance For Human Research Protection, a non-profit advocacy group for responsible and ethical medical research practices, has called for the suspension of JAMA editor-in-chief Catherine DeAngelis and exec deputy editor Phil Fontanarosa, and for an an investigation into allegations that they threatened a researcher who criticized a study published in the journal, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Textile experts at Japan Women's University in Tokyo developed J-ware, a a line of odor-free underwear and casual clothing. The first Japanese astronaut to live on the International Space Station, Koichi Wakata, is the guinea pig (or maybe his fellow ISS habitants are).

The Texas Board of Education is voting this week on a new science curriculum designed to challenge the guiding principle of evolution, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The proposed curriculum change would prompt teachers to raise doubts that all life on Earth is descended from common ancestry. Texas is such a huge textbook market that many publishers write to the state's standards, then market those books nationwide. "This is the most specific assault I've seen against evolution and modern science," said Steven Newton, a project director at the National Center for Science Education, which promotes teaching of evolution.

Rejoice, swimsuit-wearing masses - New Jersey officials decided to scrap plans to ban brazilian bikini waxes in the state.

The initial idea for a ban on genital waxing was proposed by the Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling after two women reported being hospitalized for infections following brazilians; one of the women filed a lawsuit.

Researchers from Philips Electronics are developing a vibrating jacket to study the effects of touch on a movie viewer’s emotional response to what the characters are experiencing. The jacket will be discussed at the 2009 World  Haptics Conference, sponsored by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
