- Collaboration Improves Productivity and Data Quality for Offshore Seismic Operations

ION Geophysical Corporation (NYSE: IO) and Fugro-Geoteam announced today their ongoing collaboration to deploy state-of-the-art streamer acquisition technologies. As a company committed to providing a technical edge to its oil & gas company customers, Fugro has begun to outfit its modern seismic fleet with three advanced technologies from ION's Intelligent Acquisition(TM) [IA] portfolio:

-- Fugro successfully deployed ION's first DigiSTREAMER(TM) solid streamer acquisition system on a 2D vessel involved in a commercial acquisition program in the North Sea. DigiSTREAMER is designed to provide continuous acquisition in an extended weather window using low-noise, solid-streamer technology. -- Fugro benefited from unprecedented spread stability and control by deploying DigiFIN(TM) throughout a 10-streamer configuration during a recent survey in challenging ocean-current conditions. DigiFIN's tighter, more uniform streamer separation enables repeatable, finely sampled seismic data and minimal infill. The success of this deployment prompted Fugro to order a second DigiFIN system for their flagship Geo Celtic vessel. -- Fugro recently upgraded a third vessel in its fleet to Orca(R), ION's next-generation command & control software system for marine streamer vessels. Orca streamlines data management and provides greater visibility and control into the full scope of streamer operations, ranging from 2D surveys to complex, multi-vessel programs. Orca software also acts as the 'brain' for ION's [IA] portfolio.

Svein Dale, Technical Manager of Fugro-Geoteam commented, "ION's DigiSTREAMER system was delivered, installed and mobilized on time and has been in robust production since April. Our crews are very satisfied with the performance of DigiFIN, which contributed to both an increase in acquisition efficiency and safe towing of 10 streamers in challenging ocean currents. Orca is considered to be invaluable for undertaking an increasing number of complex survey geometries involving multiple vessels."

Dave Moffat, Senior Vice President of Marine Imaging Systems at ION added, "We are pleased to have achieved a number of recent milestones with Fugro related to our intelligent approach to marine acquisition. ION is committed to helping marine contractors realize productivity gains from their seismic operations and deliver better image quality to oil & gas companies operating in the most complex offshore environments."

ION and Fugro-Geoteam will continue collaborating to deliver marine acquisition technologies that meet today's complex survey requirements and address the exploration and production challenges of tomorrow.

About Intelligent Acquisition [IA]

ION is leading the charge toward a new era of marine streamer acquisition with Intelligent Acquisition [IA]. The portfolio of [IA] technologies is designed to work together as a single intelligent system to improve operational productivity and seismic image quality. By integrating traditionally stand-alone navigation, positioning, acquisition, and source systems, [IA] provides seamless control and significant program flexibility. [IA] is intended to adjust to the dynamic marine environment by aligning streamer sub-systems to the unique objectives of each survey. The result: better seismic images acquired more efficiently, while complying with the most stringent HSE requirements.
