LONDON, February 13 /PRNewswire/ --

- BA renews MedAire medical service contract

British Airways (http://www.ba.com) will continue to offer its passengers an added level of medical safety and security through MedLink, a ground-to-air medical advisory service provided by MedAire (http://www.MedAire.com). Any time an in-flight medical situation arises, British Airways' pilots and flight attendants can use a radio to directly contact MedAire's 24/7 MedLink Global Response Center.

"When it comes to long-haul travel, medical situations are statistically bound to happen," said James A. Williams, MedAire CEO. "But British Airways' passengers are in good hands. Not only is each aircraft well-equipped with onboard medications and supplies, but the crew goes through extensive medical training and can rely on advice from MedLink doctors who are highly experienced at dealing with in-flight medical emergencies."

Under the renewed agreement, British Airways' crewmembers flying to the airline's 550 destination countries on approximately 700 daily flights will also have access to immediate, around-the-clock medical assistance during layovers. The airline will also have the support of MedAire's emergency management system that includes a "go team" of medical professionals, trained to offer on-site medical care and evacuation coordination to survivors during airline accidents.

MedAire's services and equipment are offered on 90 airlines worldwide.

"We are delighted that the decision was made to continue our relationship with MedAire," said Judy Cook, general manager of Health Services Delivery, British Airways. "Over the past nine years, we have relied on the specialist services of MedAire's MedLink team, which has provided great support to crew and excellent health care for our passengers. BA's number one priority is to ensure the health and safety of our passengers and crew. The MedAire service offers a valuable contribution to our ability to meet our goal."
