DELHI, India, December 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Rotary International (the global humanitarian service organization) India PolioPlus programme, in partnership with Abbott, the global healthcare company, are running a series of Mega Wellness Camps throughout five Indian cities during the first week of December.

The Mega Wellness Camps or Aarogya Mahashivir are daylong events where doctors and laboratory assistants provide free consultation and education to all walk-in patients on a wide range of health issues. Members of the community will have access to free Thyroid and Diabetes tests and other routine check-ups such as weight and blood pressure.

Rotary International's India National PolioPlus Committee (INPPC) partnered with Abbott in this initiative which is a step towards meeting their goal of enhancing access to health care. For Rotary's India National PolioPlus Committee, the effort is part of their strategy to meet the health needs of the community at large beyond Polio vaccination.

Rotary's India National PolioPlus Committee Chairman Deepak Kapur said This partnership with Abbott is an extension of Rotary's public health initiatives in India. Rotary has been championing the global Polio eradication initiative and we believe such health care support will help further the cause of Polio eradication in India by creating goodwill and acceptance amongst the community. Mr. Kapur further added, We are extremely pleased to have Abbott on board in making such medical health treatments accessible to the underprivileged sections particularly in the State of U.P and Bihar.

Mr. Vivek Mohan, MD of Abbott India said At Abbott, during our 100 years in India, we have strived to make healthcare accessible to those who need it most and the Rotary International's Mega Wellness Camps now provide one of the most effective platforms to reach out to these communities to make a tangible difference.
