BEIJING, October 13 /PRNewswire/ -- momagri, the Paris-based think tank established to prepare solutions to the inadequacies facing the agricultural sector worldwide, held a press conference in Beijing on October 10, to outline its new vision for agriculture. Topics included the threats facing the 21st century: how to feed 9 billion people by 2050, how to fight poverty and how to guarantee food security in a world of never ending crises.

The presentation included a detailed survey of the momagri economic model - the world's first model formulated to incorporate the unpredictable variations of agricultural prices and the results of trade liberalization. First reactions indicate that the momagri model could provide Chinese leaders with an accurate solution to one of their major concerns: the stability, or instability, of agricultural prices that shape the country's future agricultural policies.

momagri's project to launch a ratings agency to ease global agricultural regulations in 2009 was also greeted with utmost interest. The agency will invigorate the economic model by providing international decision-makers with currently unavailable data and indicators to better define facts and priorities concerning agriculture, development and environmental preservation. This agency will therefore meet the vision, clarity and relevance criteria that worldwide leaders are now demanding.

Lastly, momagri recommended and outlined new governance standards for global agriculture with the goal to explore the development a common course of action to change the current international situation. Shared positions on this topic are leading the way towards a productive cooperation with Chinese economists, think tanks and decision-makers.
