HyperSpace will be on display at the 2009 GSMA Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona from Feb. 16-19, at the ARM booth 1C01, Hall 1 and at the Freescale booth 1HS57, Hall 1.

The ARM Cortex-A8 processor, based on the ARMv7 architecture, is the most energy-efficient and highest-performing among ARM processors. The first superscalar processor from ARM, the Cortex-A8 processor utilizes technology for enhanced code density and performance and provides an optimum platform for HyperSpace because of its lightweight footprint and nimble performance. Cortex-A8 processor technology powers Freescale Semiconductor's i.MX515 processor, which is designed to help OEMs develop and build inexpensive, high-performing netbooks with extended battery life.

Porting HyperSpace to ARM technology will help ensure a positive user experience with new lines of netbooks. HyperSpace dramatically simplifies and improves the mobile experience in multiple ways to enable users to achieve new levels of productivity. HyperSpace boots up and powers down in seconds, giving users almost instant access to important web-based applications. Mobile users are instantly and automatically connected to the best available network with HyperSpace even as the computing device is carried in and out of range of different wireless networks. Based on a small Linux kernel, HyperSpace also requires very little power and as a result, significantly extends battery life. Finally, its colorful, graphical interface enhances ease-of-use, helping users quickly navigate the desktop.

Phoenix HyperSpace for PCs and netbooks was launched in January at CES 2009 in Las Vegas. It was selected Best Software by Laptop Magazine at CES 2009 and was also winner of Laptop Magazine's 2009 CES Readers' Choice Award. It is available now as a download at www.hyperspace.com, and will be integrated by major OEMs in next-generation notebook PCs and netbooks.

Phoenix is pleased to be working with ARM to deliver rich, instant-on, always-connected capabilities to the mobile computing user and together, we are creating a broader range of mobile computing options for consumers, said Woody Hobbs, President and CEO of Phoenix Technologies. Our OEM partners are responding to consumer demand for user-friendly computing devices of all kinds, especially lightweight, nimble netbooks, and because of the way people are using netbooks, require what HyperSpace delivers - a dynamic online experience available in just seconds, with extended battery life.

Mobile computing is a key initiative from ARM and we are pleased to work with Phoenix on technologies that support ARM Cortex-A8 processor-based products today especially in netbooks, said Ian Drew, EVP Marketing, ARM. We see Phoenix as a valuable partner as we strive to develop an ecosystem so our partners can deploy innovative new products to meet the exploding demand for netbooks.

Fast-rising netbook sales have exceeded market expectations and have taken the PC industry by surprise. The category swelled by 160% in the third quarter of last year, according to ABI Research who expects 39 million units to ship in 2009.

The netbook market is poised for significant growth due to the paradigm shift in how Generation Y is satisfying computing and connectivity needs. We have learned through focus-group studies that users are drawn to the kind of form factor, usability and performance we deliver for netbooks and those users want instant- and always-on Internet access plus widget-like, graphical, easily navigated user interfaces, said Glen Burchers, sales and marketing director for Freescale's consumer segment. HyperSpace accomplishes this plus complements the power savings and high performance our technology delivers.
