About Karla Karla Starr is a freelance writer, and has written for Slate, Popular Science, the Guardian, Psychology Today, the Los Angeles Times, the Village Voice, The Believer, and many others.

She is a member of the National Book Critics Circle, the former books editor of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Willamette Week, and the former books columnist for Seattle Weekly. She's the recipient of Best Science/Health story from the Society of Professional Journalists.

She specializes in writing about science and psychology, with a particular focus on practical implications of research, luck, chance, and success. She is a regularly invited speaker for talks and workshops nationwide on subjects ranging from music technology to freelance writing, and has reported from Argentina and Colombia.
