It is known (G. Quznetsov, Higgsless Glashow's and Quark-Gluon Theories and Gravity without Superstrings, Progress in Physics, 2009, v.3, 32-40) that probabilities of pointlike events are defined by some generalization of Dirac's equation.

One part of such generalized equation corresponds to the Dirac's leptonic equation, and the other part corresponds to the Dirac's quark equation. The quark part of this equation is invariant under the oscillations of chromatic states.

And it turns out that these oscillations bend space-time so that at large distances the space expands with acceleration according to Hubble's law.

A tornado is a rotating column of air extending from a thunderstorm to the ground.  Tornadoes are capable of 250 MPH wind speeds, cutting a swath of destruction in excess of one mile width and dozens of miles in length.

If you see a dark, greenish sky or a wall cloud and hail, you might be getting a tornado.  If you have something that sounds like a freight train, you definitely are.

A columnist at the Guardian wants help from the Web to determine the best science sites on the Web he and others there don't currently know about.   He put his personal favorites in the article and, not surprisingly, it was heavy on the political/cultural writers in science blogging but I suppose that is why they are asking for help; the shrillest and most aggressive self-promoters (and some are owned by corporate media companies) will be known but not necessarily the best.  

If you want to perhaps see your name in The Guardian you can get someone to nominate you, or do it yourself.

Iceberg Alley And Global Warming

In 1912 there were 1,019 icebergs reported in the North Atlantic shipping lane throughout the iceberg season.  Many of those icebergs were reported in April 1912.

This year, as of June 06 2010, no icebergs have been reported in that same shipping lane.

Is this evidence of global warming?

It is so intuitive to assume that, if  Arctic ice retreat is due to global warming, then a lack of Atlantic icebergs must also be due to global warming.

It doesn't work that way: there is only an indirect link between sea ice loss and iceberg melt mechanisms.

The Sun is the biggest external source of energy which affects Earth’s climate. Long-term variations of the Earth’s orbit lead to long-term (~20-400,000 year) variations in the total energy received from the Sun (Milankovich cycles) and respectively in the terrestrial temperature. For shorter time-scales, decades to centuries, the reason for solar-induced changes in the Earth’s climate are changes in the Sun itself.

We're not joking; a sense of humor helps to keep people healthy and increases their chances of at least reaching retirement age, though after the age of 70 the health benefits of humor decrease, say researchers at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

The study has just been published in the International Journal of Psychiatry in Medicine and was composed of an examination of records from 53,500 individuals after after seven years. The study was based on a comprehensive database from the second Nor-Trøndelag Health Study, called HUNT 2, which is comprised of health histories and blood samples collected in 1995-1997 from more than 70,000 residents of a county in mid-Norway.

An international research team has gathered a database of the oldest people in the world - those who lived beyond their 110th birthday, and while searching for these 'supercentenarians' and trying to find accurate documentation of their age, they also documented the personal histories and wisdom of those who long-lived folks.

The result; a book called "Supercentenarians" and  coordinated by the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) in Rostock/Germany.

Unless you live in a very deep cave somewhere uncharted, you no doubt have heard of the wonder that is Wikipedia. The intriguing site where the common individual can write and edit encyclopedic like entries on anything their minds can come up with. In recent years this phenom of a site has become the number one place to go when you need information. Scary as this sounds, it's true.

I myself check the Wiki regularly on all kinds of topics, from TV shows to Famous Figures. I like to think of it as being a good starting point in the long journey of research. I would never cite it in an actual paper, but I will say its settled a few arguments.

Increasing levels of Carbon d ioxide may promote photosynthesis some time somewhere and have adverse effects in times to come, however population explosion is happening now and here. See the water tables going down, forests vanishing, billions of people living  in abject poverty, sleeping hungary overexploiting water resources causing salinization, soil erosion, and reduced agricultural production are all population based problems .It is unequal growth of world populations which may pose threat to world peace. Populations are not growing in some countries and some countries are population production assembly line running day and night with no holidays on production of human beings. Does it go faster on holidays ?

What one wants to say what one really says and what one wants to hear and what other person really says ? With civilization covering our bodies with clothes in different parts of the world our ideas also got a covering of shyness , crookedness, wickedness depending on the level of civilization from medivel times to most modern times.

Cant we develop some machine to reach to the neurons to read what one is saying and what one is wanting to say but hiding his feeldings.

If we start reading minds of each other it will be catastrophe as most of the emotions are hidden and true feelings are seldom expressed.

The Science Of Whitewash



A complaint often leveled against climate scientists is that they fake their graphs and that investigations into such fakery which fail to show fakery must accordingly be a whitewash.

I have news for these people.

All graphs are fake.

An argument often used in philosophy is that nothing can be known as 100% truth.  The same can more properly be argued from the findings of science.  Every bit of knowledge comes from human experience and judgment.  The human brain is easily fooled: illusions, hallucinations and mirages demonstrate this.
