Barack Obama is now the President Elect of the United States. For all the reasons that have been mentioned across all the TV channels and in all the newspapers around the world, that is an incredible statement.

I am thrilled by this historic and transformational event. It is nothing less than that. I have much to say about this event and will do so in subsequent columns. There are shifts in consciousness, politics and perception that have already happened in the U.S. and around the world.. There are many more that will take place due to Obama’s victory on November 4, 2008. I will write about them in subsequent columns.

As a futurist there are two experiences I regularly have. The first is that people often ask me about predictions or forecasts I have made that have come true, and that is fair to ask. The second experience is often a type of déjà vu experience, when something I have forecast actually happens. It feels as though I am reliving it. This historic victory by Barack Obama provides me with an answer to the question and the experience of reliving a prediction.

In the Fall of 2007 I started predicting in speeches and conversations that Barack Obama would be the next President of the United States. Then, on July 24, 2008 I wrote:

“On election night the headlines will be that Obama and the Democrats win in a landslide. Obama should capture 53% or more of the popular vote and the Democrats will approach 60% composition of both the House and the Senate.”

Twenty-four hours after the election, CNN has Obama at 53% and MSNBC has him at 52.4% of the vote and give the Democrats 60% of the House and a firm 56% of the Senate, with several races still undecided. So, I was right about the popular vote and the House, and very close on the Senate. As a futurist I try to do my job.

While I am very gratified about being so correct in my prediction, in this case I am more thrilled about the reality and the actual numbers of the victory of President Elect Obama. They are another clear indicator that humanity is entering a new age, the Shift Age. It is that subject I will look into more deeply in coming columns.

For those that ask me for correct predictions, you now have a documented big one. For all of us, even those of you that don’t yet understand why, it is one to celebrate.
