    Winners Of SciVal Award Brazil 2012 Announced

    Scientific products and services company Elsevier and the Federal Coordination of Improvement of Personnel in Higher Education (Capes / MEC), today announced the winners of the second edition of SciVal Award Brazil 2012, honoring higher education and research institutions for their contribution to the scientific development of the country. 

    According to Scopus data, Brazil holds the 13th position globally in research output per country. The award honors Brazilian education and research institutions that stand out for their excellence in research performance. The ten winners were selected according to research performance indicators drawn from Elsevier's tool SciVal Spotlight, such as collaboration with Brazilian and foreign institutions and citations per document.

    Institutions receiving awards in 2012 are:

     Universidade Federal de Sao Paulo.  Category*: Research output by faculty
    Universidade Federal de Goias. Category: Research Output Growth.
    Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Category: International Collaboration (Universities only) Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas Fisicas. Category: International Collaboration (research institutes and others)
    Universidade Federal de Pelotas. Category: National collaboration (Universities only)
    Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuaria. Category : National collaboration (research institutes and others)
    Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Rio Grande do Sul. Category: Citations per document (Universities only)
    Instituto do Coracao do Hospital das Clinicas and Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein. Category: Citations per document* (research institutes and others)
    Universidade de Sao Paulo, Universidade Federal de Sao Paulo and Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Category: Research Output (Review Articles only) 

     Categories or indicators refer to scientific and conference articles, published between 2007 and 2011. Previous year's winning institutions were excluded from consideration. 

     Representatives from the winning institutions will received the awards at a  ceremony in Brasilia, Brazil yesterday. The SciVal Award also takes place in other countries, as a way of honoring representatives of several scientific communities.
