COLUMBUS, Ohio, July 16 --

- Etisalat Users in UAE Receive BlackBerry Update That Includes E-mail Sniffing
Spyware

SMobile Systems, the leading provider of security solutions for mobile phones
and maker of the only Antivirus and AntiSpyware applications in the world for
BlackBerry devices, has released a solution for the recent spyware-laden update
sent out to BlackBerry users on the Etisalat network in the United Arab
Emirates.

The BlackBerry Spyware, which intercepts email and drains battery life quickly,
was pushed as an update to BlackBerry’s on the Etisalat network. Sent to
users as a wide-area protocol (WAP) message, the Java file intercepts data and
sends a copy to a server without the user’s knowledge.

Joseph W. Hagin, Vice Chairman of SMobile and former White House Deputy Chief
of Staff who first introduced smartphones into the White House noted, We are
entering the time period that everyone knew would come; when smartphones are
becoming infected just as we’ve seen with personal computers.

This incident is yet another example of why all smartphones need to be
protected with security software, such as Antivirus and firewall, said Neil
Book, president of SMobile Systems.

Daniel V. Hoffman, chief technology officer of SMobile, and author of the book
Blackjacking: Security Threats to Blackberry, PDAs, and Cell Phones in the
Enterprise added, The truth about smartphones is that they are used in the same
manner as personal computers and are susceptible to the same threats. It has
become clear that smartphone users need to proactively ensure their devices
contain the necessary security software to protect not only their e-mail and
messaging data, but also to protect their identity and the integrity of their
mobile financial transactions.

BlackBerry and other smartphone users can easily go to smobilesystems.com to
purchase SMobile Security Shield or Anti-Theft and Identity Protection software
to remove this and other BlackBerry and smartphone spyware threats. Existing
SMobile customers need only ensure their software contains the latest security
updates to receive protection.

SMobile (www.smobilesystems.com) headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, currently
offers the most comprehensive suite of security and parental control
applications on the market for consumer, business and government smartphone
users.
