If you've ever splurged on more expensive grass seed in hopes of a better lawn, you may have been derailed by the frustratingly long time it takes to actually grow once planted. Up in New England, we regularly water for several weeks before even seeing the beginnings of fuzzy green stuff popping out of the soil. There is a noticeable correlation (inverse) between speed of germination and plant durability.

Of course, you can simply buy cheapo contractor's mix too. It's full of the grandaddy scam of grass seed, Annual Ryegrass (AR). AR grows in and creates a nice lawn while you walk inside to grab a cool beer after planting it. Unfortunately, it seems to appeal to our short attention spans and while we're busy bragging to the guy next door about the awesome seed we planted a few months ago, it drops dead. After all, it is called "Annual" for a reason.

So how do we massage our short attention spans while still getting a solid long term lawn? Well, I'm trying to figure that out, but stay tuned! The picture above shows Kentucky Bluegrass seed after only 2 days in the soil. While it's not much to look at yet, notice the sprouts popping out already. That would normally take about 2 weeks to see. I've figured out a way to get the ball rolling much, much quicker.

Currently I'm busy running trials and I hope to have a more definitive process for you to play with. It's definitely a cool concept and will take a ton of effort and water out of the equation. Saving time, money and effort? Wait. Does anyone know Ron Popeil's phone number?
