Did Pres. Obama sign a questionnaire supporting same-sex marriage or not?  His aides said he didn't.  Until he did.  Basically, even the White House doesn't seem to know.

I am sure gay groups, who likely voted 90% for him, are concerned about being told things like it has been "very clear that his position is evolving."  Well, no, there is nothing clear at all about that sentence, much less his position.

It's good he is trying to be centrist - he can pull it off in a way Pres. Bush could not.   When Pres. Obama intervened in a country that was no threat to anyone outside its own borders and that was run by a sovereign leader, there were no protests at all over Libya.  Ditto for his restrictions on human embryonic stem cell research and Guantanamo Bay.    But there are limits to how centrist he can be without looking wishy-washy.

Be for gay marriage or against it, but pick a side.   If I were a Democratic strategist, I would say; first, go with what you believe.  If you don't have an opinion on an issue, go with the conservative side.  Progressives are going to vote for you no matter what, they have already shown that, and you might shake loose a few Republicans in 2012, who can't be all that happy about the current field of competitors lined up to try and beat you.
