Distribution Area It is found throughout Nepal from 1800 to 3000 m, and also in temperate Himalayas at altitudes of 1,500-3,000m. from Simla to Bhutan, and in Lushai and Aka hills.
Common Uses .The Rhizome possesses antihelmintic properties.
The plants of P. polyphylla var. chinensis and var. yunnanensis are credited with sedative and analgesic properties and form one of the constituents of the Chinese medicine `Chonglou'. The rhizome possesses anthelmintic properties; its powder taken with hot water is used as a tonic.
Chemical Constituent A glycoside, pennogenin, has been isolated from the seeds of P. polyphylla var. yunnanensis.
However for developing countries where annual income of a farm of 1 ha could be less than 50 dollars due to rainfed conditions growing local plants could be an answer to findout biofuel. Growing biofuel plants can only protect total destruction of forests as for India a population of 100 million out of which at least 50 million cook their food on firewood purchased or stolen from forests legally or illegally would lose its forest cover in less than 30 years if no biofuel crops like local crops or plants replace forest plants for fuel.

Morphology :- 4-5 feet high plant with typical papilionaceous flowers of purplish blue colour. The underground portion of the plant consist of long roots and thin rhizomes or stolons (Trease and Evans, 1973).
