Floods in a country,or several countries, rapid Tsunamis around the world (taking place at a faster rate), temperatures rising - do they not provide enough proof that climate change is taking place. Though as per strict definition a climate change must be permanent alteration of environmental conditions of a place or continent. Are these changes permanent ? NO. But every thing is changing from bad to worst. Is is not a climate change ?
Carbon emissions apart if you look around your house: the forest is destroyed to make more houses forests are destroyed to make more electricity, more wells are dug and deeper wells are dug to support more and more population explosion.
I wonder why the problems are addressed in correct order:
Whichever way you argue one thing is sure - the population is increasing and earth resources water, land, air and atmosphere are finite. They are subjected to manmade activities of deforestation, loss of earth crust and drying of water bodies.
One feels very sad to see the devastation in Japan and offer deep condolances to the departed sousl and wish all courage to the people there who are fighting the natural calamity.
Tsunamia are a most horrific condition that can happen to any nation or a region. However, while analysing the cause and effect of tsunamis that occurred in the Andaman and Nicobar regions a commentator remarked that the mangrove vegetation of the local region, where kept intact, could check up to 90 percent effect of tsunamis.
Coastal areas up to 10 km have their own vegetation and such areas do not tolerate man-made interence of destruction of vegetation and occupation of sea land.
Nature provides "Teak " although its "Marwar Teak " for the desert people of Rajasthan . It was a common site to see this tree in the desert regions of Rajasthan and other parts of Rajasthan. In this month onwards one can see beautiful red, yellow , reddish yellow flowers on this tree. The flower color does not distinguish species of this plant and I cant give any reason for their different colors . However its wood is very valuable and comparable to teak wood (derived from Tectona grandis which requires better climatic conditions) . Due to its good quality wood this slow growing tree is almost at the verge of extinction.
Will forest department take up its plantations to save this tree from becoming a history?
Kadaya ( Sterculia urens) and Salar ( Boswellia serrata) are very typical in their habitat. They grow on slopes approaching hill tops or near hill tops ( but not on the hill tops ) if the water stream is flowing at the base of the the hills or hill range or there is a lake . This is litmus test to find the tree. In Ramgarh lake area and also in the stream flowing from the Ramgarh lake these two plants are found in abundance. Alas that for the greed of gum Katira ( high quality edible gum obtained by putting incision on the trees of Kadaya or Sterculia urens trees ) the trees are dying . Because of lack of underground vegetation the seedling fail to germinate and once the association with Salar ( Boswellia serrata) is lost the other tree also disappears.
As a child I would ask my father if we take all the minerals, vitamins, amino acids, hormones through injections tablets or in syrup what is the need to take food ? My father a botanist of 1940s scolded me for such funny ideas. Minerals need to be taken in the form nearest to their form in nature : from plants or animals for being absorbed and accepted in our body .
What Ayurveda or science of life is all about is getting minerals, vitamins, micronutrients from plants for strengthening the human body. A healthy body is not a body free from disease but a body sound physically, emotionally and mentally and at peace with itself.
Plants are capable of providing all of this and take away all the carbon di oxide from the atmosphere.
