GestureTek Mobile, world leader in gesture control interfaces for mobile devices, will 'wow' visitors with new gesture control games in Booth 2.1C158 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain from February 16th to 19th. In addition, they will share technology innovations and progress made since winning the 2008 GSMA Mobile Innovation Global Award.
Announcements include:
-- The availability of GestureTek's EyeMobile(R) optical tracking software on Sony Ericsson's F305 motion-sensing mobile phone, letting users play motion control games with advanced gesture recognition technology. Gamers tilt, shake, rock or roll their phone, rather than pressing buttons.
-- Software upgrade to a java-based mobile sensor API, enabling developers to create motion control games for handsets with or without a built-in accelerometer.
-- Enhanced availability of gesture control games with EyeMobile software, including four for Windows Mobile by TiltnTwist and two for Sony Ericsson F305 by Digital Chocolate.
GestureTek Mobile's EyeMobile engine uses a mobile device's existing camera to measure movement of the phone or user. This allows for 'joystick', 'force of motion', 'menu selection' or 'point to control' interaction, and lets users control all functions and applications of their mobile device without touching buttons or the screen, including menu selection, zooming, shuffling mp3 playlists, web browsing, map navigation, text messaging and more.
EyeMobile is software-based, and can be easily integrated into any existing camera-enabled handset and its applications, says Francis MacDougall, GestureTek's Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer. EyeMobile requires a small memory and processor footprint, can be delivered over the air and is extremely cost-competitive compared to touchscreen systems. It is compatible with the majority of the world's mobile phones: those without built-in accelerometers, and easily integrated into hardware-based touchscreen systems, like the iPhone.
Handsets embedded with EyeMobile optical tracking include the DoCoMo 904i, 905i, 906i and 706i series, with models from Sharp, NEC, Fujitsu, Panasonic and Sony Ericsson. Post-2006 camera phones supporting the Brew, Symbian and Windows Mobile platforms are also included.
