BILLERICA, Massachusetts, July 8 /PRNewswire/ --

Italian software developer, Nevis, has developed a new kind of data analytics
tool, called NFactum that combines Vertica's high-performance analytic database
with its own parametric modeling software to analyze terabytes of
multidimensional data in seconds. The software allows executives to gain better,
more immediate insight into profitability and other key performance through
NFactum's easy-to-use dashboard.

The company chose the Vertica Analytic Database to power the NFactum software
due to its ability to answer business intelligence queries faster than
competitors while running on low-cost, standard hardware. The NFactum system is
designed to give business managers a simple but complete view of their
companies' performance by analyzing all the relevant data driving their
businesses. It includes point-and-click analytic modules for sales, marketing,
geo-marketing, purchasing, production, distribution and administration
performance. The Vertica-powered NFactum system is used by dozens of companies
in the fashion, transportation, manufacturing, travel and food industries, as
well as government organizations. For example, a world famous winery uses
NFactum to optimize production and sales for 15 million bottles a year composed
of 50 different labels. And an Italian shoe maker is using the technology to
analyze terabytes of consumer data to determine which new markets to enter.

Our customers could not get an accurate view of how their businesses were
performing because the volume of data had far outstripped the capabilities of
their traditional ERP systems. We built NFactum to give them high quality
business intelligence capabilities at much less cost than traditional systems.
We needed a very high performance database that could crunch terabytes of data
with ease, and scale as our customer base and needs grow. We evaluated a number
of data warehouse appliances, but Vertica outperformed them all and at
significantly lower cost, said Enrico Grisello, president of Nevis.

The Vertica Analytic Database relies on a unique columnar, MPP architecture and
pioneering data compression to reduce storage requirements for the NFactum data
warehousing and BI software by as much as 90 percent, dramatically cutting
hardware overhead and energy consumption so customers can analyze larger amounts
of data at a fraction of the cost. The Vertica Analytic Database can operate
directly on that compressed data, delivering query results 50 to 200 times
faster than other databases.

NFactum is a great example of how highly advanced database technology can be
made extremely easy to use. Business managers can now pose complex questions to
vast quantities of data with the ease of a mouse click and receive responses in
seconds, said Dave Menninger, vice president of marketing and product management
at Vertica Systems.
