About Joe I'm a largely self-educated (apart from the usual secondary school attendance) thinker and writer on the subject of psychology (including the psychology of religion). I've been heavily influenced by the thinking of Wilhelm Reich and R. D. Laing. During my life I have had periods when I suffered greatly from depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety and bipolar disorder. Much of what I have learned about psychology generally, and mental illness in particular, I have learned through introspection, through studying my own condition. As a result I have developed a theory of mental health which has led to about 7 or 8 years during which I have been free of all psychological or emotional problems. I don't pretend that there is anything scientific about my writing. But I do have an interest in science. My main books are How to Be Free and Materialism is Masturbation : Essays in Freedom, both of which are available for free from Smashwords, I-Tunes and various other ebook retailers. How to Be Free currently has received 214 five star ratings on U.S. I-Tunes.
