The Pilgrims were not the same group as the Puritans who many Americans, especially but not only conservatives confuse for them. Many people left right authoritarian, and libertarian have been badly served by the cartoon of history they learned in school lest Baby Boom age parents, stepped in the cold war, be offended to hear that America was not a utopia from the beginning. Here are the facts. The Pilgrims were people who wanted to practice their reformed Christianity and be left alone. They did come to America numbering no more than 2600. They lived in relative peace with their Native American neighbors for decades. The Puritans came later, in tens of thousands.

One of the strongest results that Astronomy can produce is an image, a picture of a distant natural event we would never otherwise know about. Gravitational wave astronomy, however, focuses on just detecting gravitational waves. Each detector, which must be large, detects the equivalent of one pixel of gravitational wave. With two detectors we can verify that we have detected the waves and triangulate direction, with three or more we can do this better and better. Currently LIGO can and does produce images which show the probable location of the event that causes the gravitational waves on the sky. However, what I am writing about today is visualization of the gravitational waves themselves.

According to the 2020 Decadal survey published by the National Academies of science the US Large telescope program including the Thirty Meter Telescope are the number one priorities for ground based astronomy in the US. For many good reasons. However, there is a fundamental misunderstanding of the Native Hawaiian situation, which seeks to identify the indigenous stakeholder(s). That misunderstanding is that there exists some sort of duly constituted, or even constituted but not state or federally recognized indigenous Hawaiian only government that might not be being listened to.

MicroBooNE did not find the sterile neutrino which it was designed to instead it found the absence of the sterile neutrino. That too is finding something. In fundamental research sciences we learn both by what we find and do not find. To make a prediction and falsify it also advances science by eliminating possibilities. Gradually we can zero in on what is possible.

Generating energy from solar power satellites in space is the long-term final solution to the energy needs of humanity. Cheap easy access to space is crucial for this. In fact, we live at an important time where if we do not use the energy, we have wisely we may squander this chance. If we used all the energy resources available on Earth alone we could only put into orbit a mass equal to that of Mt Everest. After that we are trapped here. Multiple studies have shown that to be transgender is not simply a matter of choice, or a sense of identity like religion. An aspect of a person which our laws rightly protect. Indeed, a sincerely held belief religious or not should be as protected as worship or speech in a free country. However, we live in a time of science and the science on transgender identity is clear. Being trans is in fact much more like being born with a certain skin, hair, or eye color than a choice or belief. In this brief report we will look at the results from published meta-analyses of the literature on the interaction between sex hormones and hormone receptor genes in transgender people. Most of the literature focuses on transgender women, as we are the most controversial.
