Factory waste, printing and dying industry waste, and bio-organic waste and now oil spills all require bacteria or complex of microbes to clean them as bacteria can utilize these products for their nutrient requirement. Bacteria may not be able to degrade these products completely but they can bring them to a stage where they are easily disposed. Its time more time and research is done on bioremediation If we could have enough information how to cure the oil spills with bacterial treatments it will save future disasters. Its time we undertake bioremediation as serious research topic.
Microbes work to mop up oil Some months ago I posted on the scientificblogging.com on my site that probably microbes have eaten the oil away. This was based on my interaction with Dr Banwari lal of TERI India who discovered and pioneered this mixture to scavenger the spilled oil. It was no wonder to me as almost all the organic material on the earth is eaten up by bacteria. Hydrocarbons also come in this category. Here again this view was supported by recent findings of Lawrence Berkley laboratory. I am quoting the report from Terry Hazen of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and his colleagues found increases in several bacteria varieties degrading the hydrocarbons within the oil's reach.
Nature has its own rules and it plays its game on its own terms. If there is auto inhibition of spore germination, there is also infection court which requires minimum number of propagaules to cause the disease. If pathogen has to cause infection on a particular host , its the host which provides receptor molecules which are recognised by the pathogen and the host virtually invites pathogen to attack. Nature has compatible and incompatible response i.e. susceptible and resistant hosts to different pathogens. What induces resistance to pathogens- in biotrophic pathogens and necro-trophic pathogens ? Some times its absence of receptor molecules so that the pathogen is not able to attack as it is not able to recognise the host.
If Octopus will be deciding the outcome of world football matches in future also it will not be a surprise. The reason is simple. People say all the 23 predictions that Octopus made came true. I dint follow them all but I believe what was shown in the most advanced global TV channels : they showed the octopus before and after the news. What is Octopus theory? It has three components: 1. Asking: we are asking an animal to predict the outcome of a football match (I am not sure if Octopus has ever seen a football match) 2. Start believing that taking food from particular box is signs of winning of a particular team. (If 10 million people have that belief in their mind its real great achievement of advertising of that belief).
If anything goes wrong in any part of the world the answer is “ climate change”. It is true in some cases. Supporters of climate change say its true in all cases. However opponents of the climate change theory always try to say it’s not climate change its just a chance that the temperatures have gone down ( ice age is coming again ) or it was just one of the coldest year or hottest year in last 80 or 100 years. (I don’t have access to that record). A human life span is 100 years. All one has to worry is about 100 years. Opponents of climate change theory have almost half of this period left and they are sure nothing is going to happen in next 50 years so. Supporters of climate change theory predict changes will take place in next 50 years.
A study conducted at University of Bristol published in Biology Letters assumes that Charles Darwin may have been wrong when he argued that competition was the major driving force http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-11063939 However I have never studied evolution myself so I can’t have firm scientific opinion for or against this observation or interpretation . My observation is that its the second best which survives the struggle for existence. The best and biggest reptiles their times became extinct (smaller reptiles survived). The mammals ( perhaps the second best) survived. All the best warriors are dead the second best survived the battle (perhaps they were not in the forefront to bear the first brunt of enemy fire ).
