Mayor Michael Bloomberg was in California on Wednesday to appear with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger at a fund-raiser hosted by financier and philanthropist Gary Winnick at his Los Angeles home. Winnick is chairman and founder of iCrete, the advanced concrete technology company which is revolutionizing the world's second largest industry, and the founder of Global Crossing and the Global Crossing Network, which now spans a total of 130,000 miles worldwide and connects six continents.

The event at Winnick's home in Los Angeles raised money to support Proposition 11, the re-districting reform initiative on the November ballot in California. Both Bloomberg and Schwarzenegger spoke in support of Proposition 11, which would create a 14-member independent citizen commission to redraw state legislative district lines based on strictly non-partisan rules.

The California governor and Winnick also both commented favorably on early results from the sale of short-term bonds by the State of California as an encouraging and positive signal to the broader financial markets.

"This is not a time for us to bury our heads in the sand," Winnick said in introducing Schwarzenegger. "This has been a great country to all of us and now is our time to buy in and show our support."

Added Winnick: "In times of crisis, we can hope that it will all pass us by. That never works. Or we can call forth leaders like Michael Bloomberg and Arnold Schwarzenegger to bring us through."
