BARCELONA, November 22, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- On November 24, the Alliance 4 Universities (A-4U) will sign a series of agreements with universities and research centres in India to promote exchanges of students, lecturers and researchers. The A4U will set up collaborative agreements with Indian institutions in the areas of engineering, technology, biological sciences, economics and the humanities. These agreements will allow Spanish students to complete their education in Indian universities, and vice-versa. It will also promote mobility among lecturers and will facilitate collaboration on research projects between specialists from both countries.

The agreements will be signed in a public ceremony at the headquarters of the Cervantes Institute in New Delhi on the 24th at 11 a.m. The ceremony will be attended by chancellors and vice-chancellors from the A-4U institutions (Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, Universidad Carlos III, Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona and Universitat Pompeu Fabra) and delegations from the Indian institutions involved. Also in attendance will be the Spanish Ambassador to India, Ion de la Riva, the Embassy's economic and trade office advisor, Teresa Solbes, and the director of the Cervantes Institute of New Delhi, Oscar Pujol.

One of the A-4U's objectives is to expand the teaching and research activities of the alliance's institutions internationally. In this regard, India is a strategic area for the internationalisation of Spanish universities. The agreements to be signed in New Delhi will lay the groundwork for academic and scientific collaboration between the A-4U universities and their Indian partners. There will be seven agreements with the following Indian institutions:

- The Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore - International Institute of Information Technology in Bangalore - Indian Institute of Foreign Trade of India - Birla Institute of Management Technology - Consortium of National Institutes of Technology of India (Co-NIT) - Jaypee Education System - Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore

Between November 22 and 27, the A-4U delegation will also be visiting the universities and research centres in New Delhi and Greater Noida, with which it will set up the new agreements. This trip will also serve to introduce the A-4U's academic programmes to Indian students.
