Springer has commissioned an edited volume about the singularity hypothesis and related questions, intelligence explosion, acceleration, transhumanism, and whole brain emulation.

“The book examines answers to central questions which reformulate the singularity hypothesis as a coherent and falsifiable conjecture, examine its empirical value, and investigate its most likely consequences, in particular those associated with existential risks”, blah blah blubber.

Academic Philosophers

This is the extended abstract of an article you cannot read anywhere, which ensures that one can later claim “nobody could have possibly foreseen as the relevant literature clearly shows …” (here more on why).  The article clarifies the singularity concept’s terminology and criticizes the concept itself, finishing with global suicide as the only expected annomality:

Singularity: Nothing Unusual Except For Global Suicide

Quantum physics has proven that the world cannot be described by local realism. Therefore, Many-Worlds Interpretations (MWI) are now in vogue.

This is already wrong: Everett's is a relative state description, not necessarily a multiple worlds interpretation.

Germany shortens school ("turbo abi") and abolishes mandatory military training at the same time! This year, those that otherwise would have marched to the shooting range instead squeeze in between the seats taken by immigrants and the standing space occupied by usual graduates wrestling the new “turbo” graduates. The icing on the cake is how the universities deal with it.

You may have heard of Germany’s Thilo Sarrazin and his book “Germany Abolishes Itself: How We Are Risking the Future of Our Nation”. It focuses on the influx of Islamic culture that makes it almost impossible for immigrants to integrate into modern society. It also mentions intelligence being linked to genes, so it is controversial and criticized by people who never read it.

There are often heated discussions about the Big Bang.  The Big Bang is well defined as the high density state that you get if you extrapolate the today observable cosmic Hubble expansion backward into the past.  This definition has been the same one all along; it did not change; it is still valid today.

What does this entail?

1) The Big Bang tells you nothing about the absolute size of the universe at any time! As far as the definition is concerned, it may have been infinite all along. The Big Bang is not where the universe has zero size.

Undecidability is weird, much weirder than quantum theory, which is benign by comparison. Let me give a simple example for something that may well be undecidable:

Take any natural number N. If it is even, divide it by two. If it is odd, then first multiply by three and add one before you also divide by two. This gives you a new number N1 which is either N/2 or (3N + 1)/2. Now repeat the same procedure over and over again, i.e. look at whether N1 is even or odd and get either N2 = N1/2 or - well you know what.
