A man that fancies women with blond hair may announce such almost anywhere. Established scientists frequently work thinly veiled references to the proverbial sexiness of blondes into their talks, to loosen them up, to render the seminar or lecture personal and memorable. On the other hand, I have never seen anybody but Quentin Tarantino put their foot fetish into their work; certainly I do not know of any politician or scientist “putting their or others’ feet in their mouth” this way.

I love good comment sections in blogs: Good questions, different opinions, more examples, constructive criticisms, and so on; all this can help to get a much better picture of the issue at hand. However, having to scroll through loads of junk just to find the one or other interesting comment that may or may not hide in there, now that seriously lessens the value way too often. Therefore, I delete especially long and off topic comments if I deem them of no use to any readers.

Since China becomes ever more important also for academia and science, here insights into difficulties that are not widely mentioned. I started with the language barrier, and there were points that need to be explained further.

My first point was that if you usually speak German or some such language, learning Spanish is just one more language while Mandarin equals learning three new languages: Written characters, spoken Mandarin, and Pinyin Romanization.
